Why Fans with Pahonia Image Detained?
Igor Shunevich

Anton Matolka addressed the Minister of Internal Affairs and asked to explain a reason for football fans detention.

A well-known blogger wrote it on his Facebook page.

In his address, he asks for clarification under what legal documents "police voice their disagreements against the citizens of the country", when they see national symbols - white-red-white flags or Pahonia coat of arms, which are intangible historical and cultural values, enlisted as historical and cultural ones.

Blogger recalls that on Monday 5 people were detained at the match of the national football team in Barysau, referring to the news about the arrest of fans because of the scarves with the image of Pahonia coat of arms.

On Sunday evening "traffic police failed to explain the reason for the stop and behaved extremely unprofessionally" during the driver's arrest, who had a national white-red-white flag in his vehicle, Salidarnasts reports.

- Tell me, what law will I, Anton Matolka, violate, if I wear a t-shirt with the image of white-red-white (WRW) flag or Pahonia? What law will I violate, if I put the WRW flag on my shoulders and take a walk across the city? What law will I violate, if I put on a Pahonia scarf in WRW colours?

If I do not violate any law, then why should I react on claims and roughness of police?

Perhaps, a reply of the Internal Minister, under your signature, which could be printed out and be at hand (to be safe), will be the argument to make officers apologize and continue to fulfill their duties, but not pester the citizens, whose history of Belarus does not begin since 1941, Matolka writes.

The blogger asks for a written reply to his address "under Internal Minister's signature".
