Yury Khashchavatski: Don’t Help Swindlers. Respect Yourselves

People, who participate in the “voting”, are losing their face and their sense of self-worth completely.

It was said by the well-known filmmaker Yury Khashchavatski in the interview to charter97.org website.

- Will you cast your vote in the upcoming “elections”?

- Heaven forbid! It is the same thing as to make oneself an idiot. It is an outlandish falsification, it is a foolish show, and why should I take part in it on my own initiative…

It reminds an old funny story: [a person was sentenced to a capital punishment by hanging and asks:] should I bring my own rope, or should I be given one? I won’t bring my own rope. I think that people, who go to the polls now, are depriving themselves of self-respect and dignity.

The regime is not just engaged in cheating in play – they do not conceal it! Absolutely everybody knows that there is going to be nothing but crooked gambling. It is already going on – electoral precincts have been merged, and for example in Minsk, according to our calculations, 250,000 voters “disappear”. In this way they are trying to increase the per cent of voters’ turnout.

But it is obvious they are swindlers! And moreover, they are bad swindlers – they cannot even deceit well. I cannot participate in such an event, I wouldn’t, as I respect myself.

- And what are you going to do on the day of the “elections”, October 11?

- I am going to work. I continue my work at a satiric programme for Belsat TV channel, which I create with my friends, and to continue my film about Russia and Georgia in the modern world.

I have my things to do, and I am going to be busy with that.
