CNN: Four Russian Cruise Missiles Launched on Syria Crashed in Iran

Monitoring by U.S. military and intelligence assets has concluded that at least four missiles crashed on their way to Syria as they flew over Iran.

Censor.NET reports citing CNN. One official said there may be casualties, but another official said this is not yet known. It's unclear where in Iran the missiles landed. CNN reminds that the Russian ships have been positioned in the south Caspian Sea, meaning the likely flight path for missiles into Syria would cross over both Iran and Iraq.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on Wednesday, Oct. 7 that the Russian ships in the Caspian Sea attacked terrorists of the Islamic State. Reporting to Russian President Vladimir Putin, he said that all 26 missiles launched from four missile ships struck their targets located at a distance of 1,500 km.

The video released by Russia's Ministry of Defense showed the trajectory of missiles in flight. They did fly through the territory of Iran and Iraq. The destination was Syria. The strikes were delivered from warships in the Caspian Sea, including the Gepard-class frigate Dagestan and the Buyan-M-class corvettes Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich and Veliky Ustyug. The ships fired cruise missiles.
