Minsk Authorities Banned Public Reading Of Bible In Park

Minsk City executive committee banned holding a public reading of the Bible in Maxim Gorky Park in Minsk.

This answer of the city authorities signed by the deputy chairman of the city executive committee, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus Ihar Karpenka, has been received by the initiator of the event, a legal consultant of New Life Full Gospel Church Siarhei Lukanin, Krynitsa writes.

The aim of the event was popularization of the Holy Scripture’s texts and Christian values. “This event would not be a public worship, it does not have an aim of officiating in a religious ritual, carrying out religious rites and ceremonies,” – the application stressed.

The First Secretary of the CK of the Communist Party of Belarus answered to that that in Belarus “public worships, religious rites, rituals and ceremonies are held without hindrance in places of worship, religious buildings, territories belonging to them, and in other places given to religious organizations for these purposes, in the places of pilgrimages, at cemeteries and in crematoria.”

In view of the above Minsk city executive committee does not permit holding this event on the territory of the Central Childrens’ Park named after M. Gorky,” Ihar Karpenka noted.

In case it’s impossible to hold the event in the specified location at the specified time, Siarhei Lukanin requested that he be provided with the information on another time and place in Minsk, where he could hold similar events. The answer he received from the main communist of Belarus was that “setting of the date, time and place of a mass event” is the responsibility of the applicant, and therefore the request of the legal consultant of New Life “is groundless”.
