Fined Br4.5 Million For Rally In Kalinouski's Memory

In Svislach, Hrodna region, a court over Yury Horbik, a participant of the memorial event dedicated to insurgents of 1863, was held.

An activist Yury Hlebik was charged with participation in an unsanctioned event, Radio Svaboda reports.

The verdict is a fine of 25 basic units (Br4.5 million).

Two witnesses were heard in the court. They attracted attention of the court to the fact that Hlebik was holding a white-red-white flag in his hands and delivered speeches near monuments. They could not say whether Hlebik violated public order or not.

Hlebik asked a question to the both witnesses, whether the flag is banned in Belarus. The both answered that the flag is banned in Belarus, and essentially, he is guilty because of that.

The court took into account only the evidence by witnesses. Hlebik asked the judge several times, as he could not understand what charges against him had been filed. The judge answered that a report had been drawn up against Hlebik, and the ruling was passed basing upon it.

It is the second judgement for him within a year: last year Yury Hlebik was fined 10 minimal wages.

Besides, administrative cases were opened against two more Hrodna activists – Uladzimir Khilmanovich and Viktar Sazonau.

On October 31, 2015 in the settlement of Svislach and in the village of Yakushouka, where the family estate of the family of Kalinouski was, public activists of Hrodna region paid tribute to the memory of rebels of the year 1963, laid flowers to the monuments of Kanstantsin Kalinouski and Ramuald Trauhut, and to the grave of Viktar Kalinouski.
