Ales Makaeu: After January 1 There’ll Be Collapse At Markets And Shopping Centres

After January 1 Lukashenka bans conducting business for sole traders who pay a single tax.

Activists of the Solidarity movement Razam are ready to take on leadership in protest rallies of self-employed sole traders, which are possible due to changes in the conditions of conducting small business in Belarus since January 1, 2016. It was said by the deputy chairman of the movement, a Minsk businessman Ales Makaeu at a press-conference in Minsk on November 19, BelaPAN informs.

“After January 1 Lukashenka bans conducting business for sole traders who pay a single tax. It means a collapse at markets and shopping centres in Belarus.

Payers of a single tax make the majority at most of the markets. So naturally if the core leaves, 70-80% o sole traders, there is no point in conducting business for those people who would have a right for that.

I am afraid that a great number of people – small businessmen, their families – are to lose their means of existence. It’s really terrible. Closure of markets and non-payment of taxes, especially in the regions, is to have consequences for the regions,” – Makaeu noted.

“Why don’t young people want to become businessmen, and their number shrinks by at least 10% a year? People are intimidated. It is unbearably difficult to start business under such conditions,” – an activist of the small business community Tatsiana Mironava said.
