Brest Authorities Want To Close Swimming Pools In Kindergartens To Save Budgetary Money

In order to save budgetary funds, suspension of kindergarten swimming pools' operation is being considered in Brest.

“To date, all 11 swimming pools in pre-school institutions of the city are working. But the decision to close them temporary is not excluded if it is economically viable,” – the Head of the Department of Education, Sports and Tourism of Brest City Executive Committee Anatoly Naskou said.

However, he stressed that suspension of school swimming pools' operation is out of the question, BelaPAN reported.

Since November 17, “in order to optimize the consumption of energy and save budgetary funds”, they started to turn off all street lights in Brest from 0.00 to 5.00 hours by the decision of the city executive committee.

On November 18 the news item that street lights will be turned off from 1.00 to 5.00 on weekdays was posted on the official website of the city executive committee. From Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday at nighttime street lighting will be carried out as usual.

Brest Social Democrats have filed a complaint with the police department of Brest regional executive committee and the prosecutor's office on the issue of cutoffs. They ask to preserve street lighting at night. They have created an electronic petition on the change.org site with a demand to cancel the decision of the local authorities.
