Contrary To Miasnikovich’s Words: No Tax On Foreign Parcels So Far

The EEU countries are against taking down the duty-free internet trade threshold to 150 euros.

According to the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Alexei Likhachev, the proposal to lower threshold for duty-free purchases from online stores to 150 euros has not fond support among the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Likhachev did not exclude that the issue would be considered again on December 2. In the meantime, the issue is postponed, BelTA reports. Russia has voted against the introduction of the new standards, and also takes a stand against the introduction of a fixed payment for online purchases.

We remind that the day before Russian media reported about the intention to lower the threshold for duty-free purchases from online stores to 150 euros in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. The chairman of “the Council of the Republic” Mikhail Miasnikovich confirmed that in his speech, he also offered to impose the VAT on parcels from abroad.

In Belarus, the duty-free threshold is 200 euros. Moreover, it was increased up to 120 euros just recently, in October 2014.
