Makeup Of Russian Airbase In Babrujsk Approved

According to the plan of deploying a Russian air base in Babrujsk, the Russian air unit is to consist of 12 combat aircrafts and 4 helicopters.

According to the draft of the Russian air base in Babrujsk, the Russian air unit is to consist of 12 combat aircrafts and 4 helicopters, said the head of the operations division of the Commander-in-chief’s office of the airspace forces of Russia Alexander Liapkin, RIA Novosti writes.

“It is planned to keep one aircraft squadron of fighter planes in Babrujsk airfield (12 planes), and a helicopter cell (4 Mi-8 helicopters),” – General said.

As said by him, the makeup of the Russian airbase and its organization and establishment has been already approved.

“I want to address Belarusian colleagues with a request to facilitate all the necessary procedures for preparation of this agreement for signing," – Liapkin said, specifying that the approval of the document had been obtained from the Belarusian side.

On November 24 the decree concerning the intergovernmental agreement with Russia on joint technical support of the regional force grouping of the two states as the grounds for holding talks was published on the National legal web portal. The document was signed by Andrei Kabiakou, Prime Minister of the country.

The government decree’s text has not been posted. According to some sources, this agreement between the two governments could be signed in the framework of Lukashenka’s visit to Russia on November 25-26.

We remind that the issue of setting up the Russian air base in Babrujsk had been actively discussed recently. In late September Putin ordered to sign an agreement to deploy the airbase in Belarus.

As it had been agreed upon earlier, the first foreign visit of Lukashenka after his inauguration is to take place in Russia. As said by the aide to the Russian president Yury Ushakov, one of the topics of the meeting will be deploying of the Russian airbase in Belarus.
