Paintings devoted to the topic of Ukraine were banned at Pahonia art group’s exhibition in the Arts Palace in Minsk.

An exhibition Pahonia, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Pahonia arts group, has opened in the Arts Palace in Minsk.

On November 24 in the afternoon, when the show was completely ready, paintings found their places, a call from the Ministry of Culture was received. There was a request to remove two works by Ales Marachkin. They are The Duel, Or Resistance to Two-Headed Mutant, and Our Lady of the Heavenly Hundred.

Ales Marachkin told the reporter of Radio Svaboda that he managed to defend the picture Our Lady of the Heavenly Hundred. The artist referred to the official stand of Belarus towards Ukraine. However, he had to take down The Duel, as the entire exhibition was at risk.

The picture called To the Memory of Belarusians Who Laid Lives For Ukraine by Ales Pushkin was taken down from the wall as well.
