Niakliaeu: Russia Drawing Belarus Into War Rapidly
ULADZIMIR NIAKLIAEU

And Lukashenka’s desire to try on marshal or general’s epaulettes also fosters that.

Downing of a Russian Su-24 by Turkey is one of the episodes of the Third world war, believes a Belarusian poet and politician Uladzimir Niakliaeu in an interview to Radio Racyja. According to him, the conflict in Syria could linger on for a long time. In fact it is a war of civilizations. And one should not think one could retire from it easily and quickly. And Belarus is Russia’s closest ally, while Russia is rapidly involved in this confrontation of civilizations.

“What should Belarus do in this case, with its capacities, with the army which is 60,000 strong – which is not really well-armed, with old tanks, guns and aircrafts? There is no need to prove that we are ready to decide something in the international politics. That is why we should do what is written in the Constitution,” – Uladzimir Niakliaeu said.

And the Constitution, even the one amended during Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s rule, it is said that Belarus aims to create a neutral state.

“So we need to seek neutrality, and not to demonstrate abilities of a general or even a marshal, which Lukashenka wants. One should understand a real political, economic and military weight of the country we are living in,” – said Uladzimir Niakliaeu.
