Zinaida Mikhniuk: Not To Become Slaves, One Should Not Fear Authorities

7

The chairperson of the Brest regional branch of the radio-electronic industry trade union is fighting for the annulment of the contract system in Belarus.

Zinaida Mikhniuk is collecting signatures under an open letter to Lukashenka to annul the Decree № 29, which introduced the contract system of employment in the country.

According to the activist, the contract system in its current form has turned people into slaves. She said that in an interview to Radio Racyja.

ZINAIDA MIKHNIUK AND MARHARYTA VIALICHKINA (LEFT)

– Young people from 30 to 40 put their signatures readily agreeing that it is evil. The elders are afraid, even pensioners. What if their signatures would be found, and they would be deprived of pensions. Many people say that they work on the contract, so they are afraid. That's the animal fear our Belarusian nation has been reduced to. I'm telling them that my house has been searched, and I have been interrogated in the KGB, and here I am alive and I live among the rest of people, because I do not violate the law. What’s the use of worrying for your 2 million pensions?

According to Zinaida Mikhniuk, the economic situation will only get worse. Therefore, people should understand that the current situation is far from the promised “stability.”
