Salaries in Belarus dropped by one third in dollar terms

The average nominal wages of employees in Belarus paid in January 2015 was Br6,023,2 thousand.

As compared to December 2014, it dropped by 11.5%, or by Br782,800, AFN reports.

In January 2015 as compared to January 2014 the real wages (wages, calculated considering the hike in prices for goods and services) dropped by 3.5 per cent, in January 2015 as compared to December 2014 it dropped by 13.6 per cent, the National Statistics Committee informs.

In dollar terms, the wages have fallen by 35%, as a result of the devaluation of the national currency by almost 40%.

Thus, in December the average nominal wages of employees was Br6,806,000, or about $620 (with the exchange rate Br11,000 per one US dollar). In January, after the devaluation, the wages collapsed to $400 (as the exchange rate was Br15,000 per 1 US dollar).

Note: In January 2015 the average wages in industry was Br6,256,100, in construction industry – Br7,022,600, in transport and communications – Br 6,952,300, in agriculture and forestry – Br4,462,700, in education – Br4,439,300, while the salary of teachers was Br5,354,300, and Br6,929,700 for professors and lecturers.

In January 2015 salaries of employees of the health care system was Br4,997,100. The average salary of doctors was Br8,058,700, and Br4,988,200 for paramedical staff.

The highest average salary was paid to employees of the financial sphere, Br10,967,000.
