Corruption scandal: Mysterious case of son of Lukashenka's former associate

A son of Lukashenka's ideologist Uladzimir Zamiatalin will stand trial. Prosecutors say about criminal activities worth millions of dollars.

He is charged with involvement in an organised group that carried out illegal business activities. The income was up to 100 billion rubles. The man may face up to 7 years in prison and confiscation of property. Prosecutors brought charges against a group of persons in Misnk's Zavadski district court. One of the group members is Dzianis Zamiatalin, the son of Uladzimir Zamiatalin, Belsat TV reports.

Uladzimir Zamiatalin began to at Aliaksandr Lukashenka's Administration in 1995 on the post of the head of the main department for political information and later as the deputy head. In 1997, he was appointed head of the State Committee for Press and then deputy head of the Council of Ministers responsible for culture, education, religion and ethnic groups.

He worked as the first deputy head of Lukashenka's administration from 16 June 2000 to 12 September 2001.

He headed the republican commission on registration (re-registration) of public organisations. On March 27, 2001, Aliaksandr Lukashenka approved a new composition of the commission, and Zamiatalin was replaced by first deputy head of the president's administration Stanislau Kniazeu.

He became the director of Belarusfilm national film studio in December 2006.
