Yauhen Vaskovich's mother: Son hopes for early release

Yauhen Vaskovich's mother: Son hopes for early release

Yauhen Vaskovich, who was transferred from prison to correctional facility No. 15 in Mahilou at the end of last year, has meet with his mother for the first time in four years.

Rushaniya Vaskovich visited her son alone.

“Yauhen's grandmother Zoya is too old to travel so far, so I went alone,” Rushaniya Vaskovich told Viasna human rights centre. “We were given a separate room. We had time to talk about everything. The conditions there were good. Grandmother made Yauhen's favourite pancakes, I brought a lot of food. Unfortunately, he couldn't eat everything for 24 hours, because he cannot eat fatty and heavy food and wasn't allowed to take products to the cell. He looks thinner. He lost about 5 or more kilogrammes.”

Yauhen Vaskovich works hard and hopes for early release, his mother says.

“He says he began to sew jackets rather good. Of course, we don't hope he will be released before the 'elections'. He reads a lot and tries to answer all letters in spare time. Yauhen thanks and hugs everybody for their support. He says he will organise a party for all of his friends after the release,” Rushaniya Vaskovich says.
