UCP activists invite Minsk residents to attend Freedom Day rally

Activists of the United Civil Party (UCP) held an information campaign on March 23.

They visited Minsk's Viasnianka district and distributed about 1,000 leaflets inviting people to attend the Freedom Day rally and leaflets about democratic changes.

“We wanted to tell people that the 'special way' that Lukashenka has been keeping to for the last 20 years is a dead end. The economic crisis in the country proves it,” Mikalai Kazlou, the deputy head of the UCP Minsk department who took part in the campaign, said to the UCP press service. “Our goal is a modern European state with a developed economy. We want changes! Free and honest elections can be the first step on the way to changes.”

UCP leader Anatol Liabedzka and activist Volha Mayorava were handing out leaflets in Minsk's Savetski district.

The Minsk authorities permitted the Freedom Day rally on March 25. People are expected to gather near Kastrychnik cinema at 15:00 and go to People's Friendship Park to have a rally at 17:00.

Activists will collect signatures to declare March 25 a public holiday.
