Picket at the Latvian Embassy in Kyiv: No legalization for Lukashenka!

In Kyiv there were protests against the invitation of Lukashenka to the Summit in Riga.

On March 4 in Kyiv members and supporters of the solidarity movement "Vmeste" held picket next to the Embassy of Latvia in Ukraine, Radio Svaboda reports.

Among those present were Belarusians who asked for a political asylum in Ukraine. They sent diplomats their appeal to Latvian government against possible Lukashenka's presence at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga in May. Protesters got angry with attempts of Latvian government to invite Lukashenka to the summit. "We consider legalization of the last dictator of Europe through the Eastern partnership unacceptable"

the statement says. The authors of the appeal consider that" there should be no relations with the last dictator of Europe". They don't mind cooperation between Belarus and the EU. But they oppose contacts with the dictator, who still has political prisoners. The authors of the address offered to send an invitation to the summit to the current Belarusian government and the opposition.

Earlier, such picket took place near the Embassy of Latvia in Warsaw.
