Leanid Zlotnikau: Russia has no money to support Lukashenka

Moscow's refusal to grant a credit points that Russia has significant problems.

Economist Leanid Zlotnikau stated that in his interview to Radio Racyja.

He notes that the Eurasian Bank has postponed last tranche transfer for Belarus until May. The meeting in Moscow has not resulted in something specified with respect to Lukashenka's financial support. In recent months Russia has had a significant drop in economy.

"Russia also has not enough money, and real wages have decreased by 10% in recent months. The same situation is in Belarus. Russian population will have enough money only to pay for utilities and food. It is a hard time for Russia. And Russia failed to agree", Leanid Zlotnikau said.

The Belarusian government expects the IMF credit. The IMF mission led by David Hoffman has started operating in Minsk. Until March 16, there will be held meetings in the Government, the Administration of Lukashenka, the National Bank, the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Deputy Finance Minister Maksim Yermalovich stated that possibilities of starting a new IMF program with Belarus were limited. Structural market reforms are the basis for the credit. Our country is not ready for them, Zlotnikau believes.

"As events demonstrate, Belarus is not going to meet the market. It does not need private property, as well as flexible prices. We did not fulfill conditions of the former credit presented in 2009. Only a little part of all promised was made. Therefore, there is no reason to give a credit", he said.

It should be reminded that several sources reported earlier that Belarusian government had asked the Russian government for a financial support for 2015 in the amount of $2.5 bln.
