Deputy Minister of Finance: Possibility of starting new IMF program with Belarus limited

Belarusian official said about pressure on the International Monetary Fund.

Deputy Finance Minister Maksim Yermalovich told reporters about the new IMF program, BelTA informs.

"New program is ready. We are ready to discuss it and hope that in a short period of time we will be able to agree with the IMF on basic positions from the point of its implementation", he said.

However, the Deputy Minister pointed out that "given the global situation and pressure put on the International Monetary Fund it (the IMF) has limited possibilities to launch the program in Belarus. The Belarusian side understands it and yet is ready to discuss the issue with the IMF mission, which starts its work in the country today.

The International Monetary Fund is an international organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., USA. It came into formal existence in December 27, 1945. Belarus is a member of the IMF since 1992, in early 2013 its quota equaled 386.4 million SDR ($542,1 million).
