Belarus lose to Denmark in Eurochallenge friendly

The Belarusian national team continued its series of friendlies against Denmark on 9 April ahead of the 2015 IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic.

The Belarusians lost the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge game 3-1 on the road.

Mads Eller opened the scoring for Denmark on the 6th minute after the faceoff. Some eight minutes later Artur Gavrus leveled off with his second in the last three outings. Julian Jakobsen put his team in front in the last minutes of the first period. His goal made Belarus' head coach Dave Lewis pull the starting goalie Igor Brikun for Dinamo Minsk goaltender Dmitry Milchakov. Following the goalless second period Dutch forward Jesper Jensen scored what turned to be the winner at 1:26 of the third.

Julian Jakobsen of Denmark and Artur Gavrus of Belarus were named players of the match.

During the post-game press conference Belarus' head coach Dave Lewis named bad discipline and a big number of penalties as the main reasons for his team's defeat.

Dave Lewis' men will continue their preparations for the 2015 IIHF World Championship with the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge friendlies against Denmark on 11 April and Slovakia on 16 and 18 April. Belarus will wrap up the series with home games against Norway on 24 and 25 April.

Belarus will open the 2015 IIHF World Championship against Slovenia on 2 May.
