Charter'97 website updates design

258

The previous structure and main elements have been preserved.

On April 16, charter97.org updated the site design, which hasn't been changed since 2007. We tried to avoid radical changes that could cause discomfort to our readers. The site remains simple, convenient and “light”.

What changed?

The size of pictures has been increased. Modern monitors require images of a higher quality and allow using photographs of a larger size. In the new version much attention is given to the choice and quality of pictures.

The upper block of the homepage now contains 7 instead of 4 main news. The world runs faster, and more significant events take place every day that we would like to draw your attention to. New tabs “Popular” and “Discussion” appeared on the homepage for the most viewed and most discussed stories. We hope you will appreciate these tools.

The vertical news feed sorted by time has been preserved. We launched the so called “infinite” feed that shows more news without updating the page. You just need to press the “More News” button.

The search form is now in the header of the site. Try pressing the search icon in the upper right corner. Language switchers and a link to the light version for old mobile phones are in the header, too.

Perhaps, you noticed the site's updated logo and new font. Titles and text became larger, making reading more comfortable.

The block “Latest News” appeared below each story. You don't need to return to the homepage to see what new stories were added in the latest minutes. They are now automatically displayed in the feed below the article you are reading.

We are coming to the really important thing. Adaptivity, a site's ability to adapt to different devices, has become a standard for news sites. We used the adaptive approach in the new design. Charter97.org can define what you use – a computer, a tablet or a smartphone – and show the version that suits your device best. Images, navigation elements and ads will change their size to fit the screen.

We hope the “cosmetic” changes will not scare off our old readers and will attract new people.
