Son of former chief ideologist Zamiatalin sentenced to 5.5 years in prison

The Court of Zavadski district of Minsk announced the verdict on illegal business activities with receipt of incomes in especially large amount.

Special attention to a trial is caused by the fact that Dzianis Zamiatalin, the son of the former chief ideologist of the country Uladzimir Zamiatalin, is in the dock, BelaPAN reports.

Together with him Yury Klimovich, Aliaksei Sahan, Anatol Padpratau, Aliaksandr Ivanou, Ivan Makaranka, and Aliaksandr Biasklubny were accused of creation of the false entrepreneurship structures with turnover Br100 billions.

According to investigation, Dzianis Zamiatalin was one of the organizers of a criminal group, which from 2008 to 2010 was allegedly involved in illegal financial transactions, introducing fake reports about taxes. He and other defendants were charged with monetary claims totaling Br81.3 billion. as collection of proceeds received in a criminal way.

All the accused pleaded not guilty, believing the evidence was falsified by investigation, as well as not recognized brought charges.

Zamiatalin is sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment in a colony with a reinforced regime with confiscation of property and the ban to do business within 5 years.

Klimovich was adjudged the same punishment.

Sahan and Padpratau are sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment, Ivanou and Makaranka - to two years in a colony with a reinforced regime. Biasklubny is sentenced to three and a half years in a colony with a reinforced regime. The convicted are sentenced to confiscation of property and the ban to do business within five years.

The court decision changed the measure of restriction from a recognizance not to leave to placement in custody in the courtroom. As Sahan and Klimovich did not appear at criminal sentencing, they will be wanted.

It should be noted that Zamiatalin has previously been in custody, he is accused in another case - bribery.

With respect to Ivanou the court ordered to apply measures of treatment for alcoholism in the place of serving punishment.

The court also satisfied a civil action in the amount of Br81.3 bln.

State Prosecutor, mother and wife of Dzianis Zamiatalin, who also was his lawyer, made no comments.

The current trial is the second on the case of illegal business activities. The first trial was held in 2010. Then Dzianis Zamiatalin spent two months in custody and was released before the trial on recognizance not to leave. In 2012 they were acquitted, but Prosecutor's Office disputed decision. Minsk City Court confirmed the first judgement, but the Supreme Court overturned it and sent the case back for retrial. In July 2013 Zamiatalin was repeatedly taken into custody.

His father Uladzimir Zamiatalin came to big politics in 90s from the press-service of the Ministry of Defence. He was in team of Belarusian Prime Minister Vyachaslau Kebich at the first presidential elections in 1994. He was a Chairman of the State Committee for the Press, Deputy Prime Minister responsible for culture, education, religion and national minorities, the Deputy Head of Lukashenka's Administration on ideology. Later Uladzimir Zamiatalin worked in bank sphere, and from 2006 to 2011 he was the Director General of Belarusfilm.
