Alyaksei Yanukevich: To urge to gather on square is provocation in Gapon’s style

The chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Party says that protest rallies won’t result in changes.

Alyaksei Yanukevich said so in an interview to Radio Svaboda.

“We have not discussed this issue yet, so I am going to express my personal attitude,” the chairman of the BPF Party said. “In the current situation the Square cannot be an instrument of democratic forces, a way of democratic changes. It could be only an instrument of the regime to discredit the opposition and trigger a new wave of crackdown.

It is also obvious that the protest rallies of the kind of the Square in 2010 could be used also by some forces from outside Belarus. I mean the Kremlin, which could lay the groundwork for even further isolation of the Belarusian regime from the West. And it means to make it even more dependent on Moscow.
