Belarus wants to buy a terminal in Baltic Sea

Belarus plans to buy a sea terminal in Baltic States for nitrogen fertilizer transshipment.

Ihar Babyr, Deputy Chairman of Belneftekhim said, BelTA reports.

He says as soon as the construction of a large nitrogen complex Grodno Nitrogen is finished, there will be a need in their own terminal. Perhaps, it will happen in 2017. "Then we will consider ports, first of all Baltic ones", he pointed out.

Ihar Babyr stressed that they needed stable export turnover for an effective port operation. Now more than a half of produced nitrogen fertilizers are consumed by domestic market.

According to plans, the future nitrogen complex will have ammonia shops with capacity of 875 thousand tons a year, 1.2 million – carbamide and the main generation unit of 200 million m³. Project investments totalled at $1.2 billion.
