German Justice Minister: Football World Cup 2018 could be withdrawn from Russia

Russia could be deprived of the right to host the World Cup football tournament in 2018.

It was said by German Justice Minister Heiko Maas in an interview to Bild, Radio Svaboda reports.

Answering to the question whether after the FIFA scandal it is worthwhile to choose countries to host World Cups in 2018 and 2022 again, the politician said:

“Every football fan has a right to know whether these decisions had been taken honestly. If it turns out that votes have been bought, you can't just stick to such a decision. It's important that the World Cup is not awarded to whoever pays the highest bribe.” Earlier a FIFA Vice president Jeffrey Webb said that it is impossible to hold the World Cup in Russia as things stand at the moment.
