Rushaniya Vaskovich: My son is keeping up his spirits
YAUHEN VASKOVICH

Letters from family and from everyone who cares, are a huge support to Yauhen Vaskovich, a political prisoner.

It has been said by his mother Rushaniya Vaskovich in an interview to charter97.org.

- What’s new with Yauhen? Does he receive letters, yours and our readers’?

- I have recently sent him a letter. He receives letters, thank God. He rejoices at that greatly. Receiving letters and newspapers is a great support to him. In April we had a short meeting. I and his father and his grandmother visited him. In July he wants to apply for a long meeting. I greatly hope that he would be allowed, and I am already preparing to go there.

- What about your relations with the administration?

- Thankfully, everything is stable so far. There is no tougher stance, thank God. As before, he works in a sewing shop. He is cheerful. He is keeping bright. It does not matter what the situation is, he is in high spirits. He is trying to keep his nerve. He does not show when he is sad.

We remind that in May 2001 Yauhen Vaskovich together with Artsyom Prakapenka and Paval Syramalot were condemned. He was sentenced to 7 years in a medium security correctional facility for an attempted arson of Babrujsk branch of the KGB on October 17, 2010 overnight. Many times he was thrown into a punishment cell. Since Ictober 2011 the political prisoner has spent 271 days in the isolation punishment cell. Later the political prisoner was transferred from the penal colony into Mahilyou closed prison as “a persistent violator of prison rules”.
