EDB concerned about an increased number of money in Belarusian economy

The growth of monetary aggregates in Belarus in May is a cause for concern.

The final issue of macroeconomic Digest, prepared by analytical Department of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), states this, BelaPAN reports.

"Growth acceleration of money supply in May could be worrying on the part of its influence on inflation and balance of payment", the last issue of the macroeconomic Digest says.

Bank's analysts note that annual growth of М0, М1, М2 and М3 monetary aggregates in May equaled 20.1%, 13.4%, 16.2%, and 34.3%. In April they fixed at 11.1%, 7.1%, 13.7% and 33% respectively, EDB specialists state.

It is worth noting that in the beginning of this year the National Bank of Belarus announced the transfer to the monetary targeting regime that involves limited monetary supply.

"Monetary targeting implies tough decisions in emission, but there will not be lack of money in the economy. It will be enough", Pavel Kalaur, Head of the National Bank, said during the conference on a current monetary policy.
