Volha Mikalaichyk: I see no sense in Maryna Adamovich's position
Volha Mikalaichyk

Fraud elections should be ignored.

Volha Mikalaichyk, Belarusian film director and social activist, told in the interview with charter97.org.

- Today Maryna Adamovich, wife of Mikalai Statkevich, has said in her speech that "the boycott of the elections to have a restricted effect due to participation of some opposition". There was a call "for a message in voting bulletins, which could speak for unaccepted policy of the regime". Do you, being a member of the initiative group of Mikalai Statkevich, support these statements?

- This position has not been coordinated with me. As a whole, there are about 1.5 thousand people in his initiative group. Perhaps, it is difficult to come to one point about "the elections" and make a statement on everyone's behalf.

But I know for sure that all filled-in ballots will be "for" Aliaksandr Lukashenka. The boycott is the model, which will ruin the plan of governmental "junta", the plan that has been practiced for 20 years already. The boycott can "ruin" their model for October 11.

In case we give our passports for voting, then we participate in fraud elections. And if not, then they will be stuck and have to find another way. I adhere to the boycott, this is what I understand.

At the same time the position of Maryna Adamovich is not clear for me. Perhaps, there is some logic, but I do not see it now.

- Could you argue in favour of your position?

- The boycott means blank voting ballots. It means that Lukashenka and Yarmoshyna will fall to thinking how they should rig the elections this time.

Now the main objective is to tell people what the boycott means. We have little time left. But people should understand why it is the only right variant.

I address those who understand the boycott: don't be afraid of spreading the idea. You can write it on asphalt, paper and disseminate it in public places.

Earlier, in one of his letters Mikalai Statkevich agreed to form his initiative group. "After a guaranteed failure to register it I announced the boycott", the politician wrote.
