Henadz Fiadynich: Those who respect Belarusians must withdraw from “elections”
Henadz Fiadynich

All “candidates” for presidency play into the hands of the regime.

The statement was made by Henadz Fiadynich, the leader of the Electronics Trade Union of Belarus, Belorusskaya Pravda reports.

– I still cannot understand the prospective candidates. Do they have a civic stance? People either have conscience or not. Those who respect Belarus and the people of Belarus, those who worry for political prisoners must withdraw. Those who “don't notice” the current events and play into the hands of the authorities can remain with the authorities. Officials will give them 110,000 signatures, and they will be allowed to play the election game.

You see how apathetic people are. It's not because it's summer now. The same was in autumn and in winter. Holding the campaign a month earlier doesn't matter.

If you feel yourself a president, if you know how to rule the country and know how to tackle the crisis, why are you so afraid of losing? You will get 51% of the votes instead of 87% or 98%. The president can be elected with a lead of several basis points in the West. If don't gain enough votes, it means that people don't support you: you deserve what you deserve.

We marked the Independence Day on July 27, which was cancelled by Lukashenka. Does he feel he is an independent citizen of Belarus? He depends on everything today. This absurd will end sooner or later. I wish it would happen peacefully. The authorities, perhaps, think about this problem, but they still use the old scenario.

What will we achieve? Time will show. I'd like to say to Lukashenka: run in the elections alone. Your name is the most famous one. People don't know the rest candidates. You have brought the country to a deadlock, so, take it out of here. Tell people honestly: I have brought the economy to a deadlock, but I know how to overcome it.

– What can you advise those opposition members who want to run for presidency anyway?

– Let them take a cup of tea and look at themselves in the mirror. Perhaps, a thought will come to their mind that they shouldn't call on people to follow them even under white-red-white flags. Why did more decent people choose not to run in the elections? You are playing into the hands of the regime but you will say later that the dictator rigged election results! What is the difference between the regime and you if you help it?
