There are no elections in the country in the current political situation.

Vaukavysk-based businessman and former political prisoner Mikalai Autukhovich, who was offered to lead the campaign to propose Mikalai Statkevch as a candidate, speaks against the participation in the “elections” in Belarus. Mikalai Autukhovich thinks there are no elections in the country in the current political situation, Radio Racyja reports.

“We shouldn't go to elections. I think we won't have any elections for as long as this person remains in power. We know who will win the next five 'elections'. Why play these games? I do not understand the politicians who want to run in the 'elections'. They understand well they will not win them. It makes no sense. It would be better if all united and organised a real boycott of the elections,” he said.

According to Mikalai Autukhovich, all efforts must be focused on the release of political prisoners rather than on the sham elections.

The presidential “elections” in Belarus are set for October 11.

None elections in Belarus have been recognised by the international community since 1996. Head of the Central Election Commission Yarmoshyna was banned from entering the EU and the US for rigging the results of the 2004 elections. Almost 200 Belarusian officials were added to the blacklist after the 2010 elections.
