Maryna Adamovich asks to clarify the EU position on Belarusian political prisoners
Maryna Adamovich

The spouse of political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich is resented with MEP Andrei Mamykin's statement.

Maryna Adamovich wrote about it in her letter to Bogdan Zdroevsky, who runs the delegation of the European Parliament on Belarus relations. Charter97.org is given the copy of the document.

"I was happy to see you again during your visit to Belarus on June 19, the wife of Mikalai Statkevich notes. –Although, as we said earlier in Strasbourg, it, unfortunately, negatively affects the situation with our relatives. The situation with Mikalai Dziadok, we have informed you about, is a good example.

But I had another reason to write you. Following the visit on the Internet-source Euroradio, there was an interview of Mr. Andrei Mamukin launched. I was really surprised with it. However, the full interview raised an increased surprise. The

MEP Mamykin made absolutely clear incompetence in the matter of political prisoners, confirmed the actual position of the Belarusian authorities, as well as insulting remark about them - the "so-called political prisoners". It is not the first time when a number of political prisoners, according to Mr. Mamykin ("two-three"), differ from that of the European Parliament that was confirmed during the visit to Belarus. I

Besides, we were hurt and offended by the utterance that three unhappy women "cried on Mr. Mamykin's shoulder".

"No claims" to Lukashenka, according to Maryna Adamovich, is inconsistent with the position of the European Parliament.

"The last paragraph of the interview "on results of the visit" looks like an official position of the delegation that visited Belarus. For us it is clear that "positive steps of the Belarusian government towards the EU" are not proved in practice. And the thesis of MEP Mamykin about "200% cooperation", "avoiding acute angles: political prisoners, non-democratic elections", voiced the day before another electoral campaign, makes us question: "Is the position voiced by MEP Andrei Mamykin official one of the Delegation?", Maryna Adamovich writes.

The spouse of the political prisoner asks to sound an official position of the Delegation of the European Parliament on Belarus relations.

"This is the only issue that counts, until our relatives are behind bars under unjust, fake accusations, which, following the Belarusian government, are repeated by Mamykin, she emphasizes. -I do really hope that you will consider it possible to inform or give a reference to the Delegation's official position based on the visit to Belarus".

It should be reminded that there are 6 political prisoners behind bars in Belarus: Ihar Alinevich, Mikalai Dziadok, Artsem Prakapenka, Jauhen Vaskovich, Yury Rubtsou and Mikalai Statkevich. They are constantly under pressure, prison conditions are deteriorating. Mikalai Dziadok's term has been extended for a year, Mikalai Statkevich is transferred to prison. They refused to release Artsem Prakapenka, although he wrote a petition for pardon. On May 27 there was a new trial of Yury Rubtsou. After he was sent to prison.
