Azarenka knocked out of Rogers Cup

Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka failed to reach the $2.5 million Rogers Cup quarterfinal in Toronto.

In round 3 the Belarusian, ranked 21st in the world, lost 5-7, 3-6 to World No.17 Sara Errani of Italy. Earlier, Victoria Azarenka saw off Ukraine's Elina Svitolina (15) 6-1, 6-4 and World No.4 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-3. Victoria Azarenka plans to play in Cincinnati next week.

Elsewhere, Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Spain's Feliciano Lopez also failed to advance to the men's doubles quarterfinal of the Rogers Cup in Montreal. In the opener the Belarusian-Spanish duet beat the Austrian-Belgian tandem Dominic Thiem and David Goffin 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 to lose to top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of the United States 5-7, 4-6 in the Last 16.

The competitions in Toronto and Montreal are over on 16 August.
