Azarenka progresses in Cincinnati

Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka has advanced into the third round of the $2.7 million Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, the United States.

The Belarusian, ranked 21st in the world, took a solid win over Danish fifth seed Caroline Wozniacki 6-0, 6-4. In the opener Victoria Azarenka saw off Lauren Davis of the United States (World No.85) 6-1, 6-2. On 20 August the Belarusian will face Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (34) in a bid to reach the quarterfinal. Azarenka leads the Russian player in their head-to-head series 4-0.

In 2013 Victoria Azarenka won the tournament in Cincinnati.

In the men's doubles Belarus' Max Mirnyi and Feliciano Lopez of Spain won the Cincinnati opener, beating Spanish-Uruguayan tandem David Marrero and Pablo Cuevas 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 10-6. In the second round the Belarusian-Spanish pairing will meet Italian duo of Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini.

The Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati will be over on 23 August.
