Obama has no plans to meet Putin so far

A meeting of the Russian and U.S. presidents is not planned in the foreseeable future, and no preparations for such a meeting are underway.

The press service of the United States National Security Council said on Wednesday, Censor.NET reports citing TASS.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday in Sevastopol that Russian President Vladimir Putin might meet U.S. President Barack Obama if Russia received a proposal from the United States.

"We proceed from the fact that our U.S. colleagues are sending signals to us that they would like to continue our contacts. And if such a proposal comes from them, I believe that our president will consider it constructively," Lavrov told journalists.

The issue was brought up in connection with several major international events scheduled for fall - a jubilee 70th session of the UN General Assembly in New York and G20 and APEC summits.

Sergey Lavrov confirmed on Wednesday that President Vladimir Putin was planning to attend the session of the United Nations General Assembly.

"The president is planning to take part in the session of the UN General Assembly. This is a great event in the life of the organization. This year we mark the 70th anniversary of this forum, which was created after the victory in the Great Patriotic War, in World War II. A record number of heads of state and government is expected to attend the session. Our president plans to take part in this event too," Lavrov said.
