Day of Solidarity with Belarus in Kyiv

The international day of solidarity with Belarusian civil society has been held in the Ukrainian capital on August 4 for the fourth year.

The date was chosen in connection with the arrest of famous Belarusian human rights defender Ales Bialiatski.

This year's event was organised by the Centre for Civil Liberties, Right to Defence Foundation in partnership with HIAS, Social Action Centre and Euromaidan SOS movement.

A picket “Do no allow killing rights and freedoms” was held near the Belarusian embassy in Kyiv at 13:00 to show what is going on in Belarus and say how the Ukrainians can help their neighbours, the organisers of the Solidarity Day report in social media.

The activists threw a dummy Kalshnikov rifle and masks of Lukashenka “the peacekeeper” on the ground to demonstrate the real attitude of the dictator towards the war in Ukraine.

They also read an appeal to European and International institutions about the state of human rights and freedoms in Belarus and an appeal to president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko about giving the refuge status to citizens of Belarus prosecuted on political motives.
