Ales Charkashyn to be buried in Kamianitsa-Zhyravetskaya
Ales Charkashyn

The funeral of a Belarusian ATO soldier is postponed at least until Wednesday.

The body was to be delivered from Ukraine on Monday, but it will arrive in Belarus only on Tuesday due to consular procedures, Nasha Niva reports.

Ales Charkashyn was a member of the Protestant church Izbavlenie in Brest. Protestants don't have a tradition of holding a memorial service or bringing the deceased to a funeral home. Charkashyn's family and friends think, however, that a visitation is needed.

The activist will be buried in the town of Kamianitsa-Zhyravetskaya near Brest.

Additional information will be available later.

Ales Charkashyn is a Belarusian citizen from the Ukrainian volunteer battalion Right Sector. He was 33 years old. He died last Friday of the wounds he received two weeks ago in a battle near the village of Starohnativka. He had the nickname Taras and had been fighting in Ukraine since winter. This is the first death among dozens of Belarusians who fight for Ukraine's independence.
