More and more Belarusians fall below poverty line

More and more Belarusians fall below poverty line

The number of the poor is increasing in the country. For example, 40% of people in the Brest region live on 1-3 million Belarusian rubles a month.

The number of those whose income was below the living wage was 464,600 people, of 5% of the population as of April 1. Their number has increased by 19,000 people for three months, Yezhednevnik reports with a link to the National Statistical Committee.

Official statistical data divides the population into groups depending on the resources per capita.

Most Belarusians can spend from 1.5 to 5 million rubles a month. This group looks big due to Minsk and the Minsk region. A closer look at particular regions shows that, for example, 40% of the population of the Brest region have less than 3 million rubles.

There are also people who live on less than 1 million rubles a month. They make 1.4% of the population of the Brest region and 0.7% in the country.

Minsk stands out of the big picture of poverty. Twenty four percent of Minsk residents spend 6 and more million rubles a month.
