Beltelecom prepares to block websites from October 1?

“Beltelecom is working hard (using labour of Chinese workers) to install and launch the equipment that would allow controlling the national segment of the internet. Works are expected to be completed by October 1, 2015,” he noted.

It was reported in May that Beltelecom put out a tender to buy hardware and software to block sites as well as to collect and store browsing history of internet users.

The new law on the media that allows blocking websites recently took force in Belarus. Several websites have already been blocked temporally this year, but no one took responsibility for it. The blocking was explained with a technical glitch.
