Shunevich: To drag a disabled person by a leg is not a power abuse

Police officers did not abuse power while the detention of a disabled person at the Uruchcha metro station on September 18, the minister said.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ihar Shunevich stated during online session with citizens, BelTA reports.

"Internal investigation is being conducted. Police officers operated inside the law and did not overstep their authority. Their actions were assessed as meeting all norms and ruled of the situation", Ihar Shunevich said. With that the Minister called journalists to be more professional at work.

"Information in mass media was only directed to discredit the Internal Affairs. Nobody intended to arrive at the truth. I'd like correspondents to provide information not to make a sensation, but to tell the truth", he stressed.

It should be reminded that on September 18 a man was involved in a scandal with police officers, who tried to detain him and take to the police station. Many witnesses state that man was a visually challenged person and the policemen used cruel actions towards him. Eyewitnesses tried to help the man and persuaded the policemen to let the man go.

One of moments on a video proves that a policeman takes the man by a leg and a visually challenged person hits his head against metal banisters.

The next day the Investigative Committee issued a statement, which noted the man had been detained for verification of the identity because of citizens' request. While the detention he allegedly resisted the police and hit one of them, insulted them. As a result, the man has been initiated a criminal case against.
