Max Mirnyi of Belarus paired with Australia's Anastasia Rodionova beat the Romanian tandem of Anda Perianu and Andrei Daescu 6-2, 6-4 to make a successful first step at the US Open mixed doubles in New York.

In the men's doubles Max Mirnyi will team up with Spain's Feliciano Lopez. Two more Belarusian players are making their appearance in the men's doubles event. Sergei Betov paired with Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain has already reached the second round after defeating Radu Albot of Moldova and Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Alexander Bury will pair with Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan.

Max Mirnyi has five US Open titles on his record: with Lleyton Hewitt of Australia in 2000 and Mahesh Bhupathi in 2002, and also in the mixed doubles with Serena Williams of the United States in 1998, Victoria Azarenka in 2007 and Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic in 2013.

Belarus' 20th seed Victoria Azarenka took a solid 6-1, 6-2 win over Czech Lucie Hradecka (World No.55) in the women's singles opener. Victoria Azarenka will next play World No.92 Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium. Olga Govortsova, ranked 68th, will take on World No.53 Mona Barthel of Germany in round two. In the women's doubles Olga Govortsova in tandem with Ukraine's Lesya Tsurenko outplayed Ukraine's Katerina Bondarenko and Australia's Arina Rodionova 6-7, 7-3, 7-5.

Victoria Azarenka was the US Open runner-up twice (in 2012 and 2013).

The US Open prize money for 2015 will make up $42.3 million. Winners in the men's and women's singles will get $3.3 million each, while finalists will earn $1.6 million each. The doubles champions will get $570,000 each, while the finalists will earn $275,000 each. The season's final Grand Slam tournament finishes on 13 September.
