Kurapaty commemoration rally supervised by police

2

Activists laid flowers to a memorial and lit candles, prayed and sang Almighty God.

In Kurapaty people honoured memory of victims of political repressions. Activists of Pro-Kurapaty movement, civil activists, as well as artist Alex Marachkin, skulptor Ales Shaterkin and leader of Razam movement Vyachyslaw Siuchyk participated in the rally, Radio Svaboda reports.

"There is a threat to Belarus' independence on the part of Putin's Russia. Therefore, the rally is of more sense than that of an election farce. But we do hope that sooner or later Belarusian power will prevail in the country. In this case, we should honour the memory of victims of political repressions", Vyachyslaw Siuchyk stated.

They recalled that the Stalin regime was condemned in Belarus, and the government failed to establish a monument in Kurapaty. Therefore, vandalism, capture of Kurapaty protected zones is the same Stalinism.

Artist Alex Marachkin stressed the importance of respect of Kurapaty victims.

The rally was supervised by police officers in plain clothes.
