The news agency writes about the adventures of Maxim Bakiyev’s personal banker, who has been arrested and is in the US now.

They write how Yevgeny Gurevich managed to escape from Kyrgyzstan to Belarus, where Bakiyev's father was granted political asylum, Radio Svaboda reports.

Gurevich, a US citizen, a graduate of UC Berkeley, worked as a business consultant in New York, where he met Maxim Bakiyev, a Kyrgyzstan’s president’s son. They founded the Kyrgyz Investment Bank. Working there, he saw a lot of cases of bribery. Among other he was allegedly used as a courier, transporting parcels with cash.

In 2010, the banker’s quiet life ended due to the coup, as the result of which Maxim’s father lost power. The Bakiyevs managed to leave the country, but Gurevich stayed and got on the wanted list as the one within the president's circle.

Gurevich was first captured by Chechen fighters, who offered him to get out of Kyrgyzstan for money. Yevgeny crossed the border hidden by blankets in the backseat of a car and thus got to Kazakhstan.

Finally, as Gurevich tells, he was rescued by Maxim Bakiyev, who allowed him to fly to Belarus on a private jet, intended for the transportation of the former president of Kyrgyzstan’s family.

Cooperation with the USA

After a while Gurevich decided to get out of Belarus. He wanted to get rid of the Bakiyevs, but he was internationally wanted, by the Italian authorities as well. Gurevich decided to surrender to the Americans, revealing them the details of the insider trading deals.

During six months, he was recording his conversations with Bakiyev and his partners, but he broke the investigation at some point by transferring $ 6 million from the Bakiyev’s account to his own account.

Three months later, Yevgeny confessed doing that to the American authorities and transferred them the money.
