Grybauskaite Demanded International Experts Be Given Immediate Access To Belarusian NPP
DALIA GRYBAUSKAITĖ

The Belarusian authorities must ensure transparency of the construction of the Astravets NPP.

Lithuania must urge the Belarusian authorities to ensure the transparency of the construction of the Astravets Nuclear Power Plant and allow international experts’ presence without delay, said the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite on Tuesday, handing over credentials to the new Ambassador of Lithuania to Belarus Andrius Pulokas, ru.delfi.lt reports.

According to the Administration of the President of Lithuania, bilateral energy and economic issues, as well as issues of migration and security were discussed during the meeting.

“The President once again stressed the necessity to demand that the Belarusian authorities would ensure the transparency of the Astravets Nuclear Power Plant construction and without delay allow international experts to assess the project’s safety and its impact on the environment objectively,” – the document says.

Lithuania criticizes Belarus for not observing safety standards at the NPP construction, but Minsk turns these claims down as unfounded.

We remind that another emergency at the reactor plant construction took place in mid-July.
