Case Of Founder Of Website 1863x.com Eduard Palchys Submitted To Court
EDUARD PALCHYS

Palchys declined the services of the paid lawyer and asked for a public defender.

A criminal case against the founder of the web site 1863x.com Eduard Palchys, accused of publishing materials inciting ethnic hatred and containing pornography, was submitted to the court.

“A criminal case on charges of committing crimes under Part 1 of Art. 130 of the Criminal Code and Part 2 of Art. 343 of the Criminal Code was received for legal proceedings by the Minsk city court,” – the press-secretary of the Supreme Court Yulia Liaskova informed.

The date of the hearing and its format will be announced later, tut.by reports.

The charge was brought against Eduard Palchys in June. As the Investigation Committee informed, before the indictment Palchys declined the services of the both defenders, representing his interests, by writing an appropriate application in their presence. After that he asked to provide him a public defender. The investigator satisfied his request.

As the website charter97.org informed, the editor of the website 1863x.com Eduard Palchys (known as John Silver) was charged under Part 1 of Art. 130 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (incitement to racial, national or religious enmity or antagonism) and Part 2 of Art. 343 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (distribution of pornographic materials). The 25-year-old native of Hrodna faces up to 5 years in prison for inciting hatred and up to 4 years in prison for distribution of pornographic materials. As the Investigation Committee has earlier reported, Palchys was posting materials that can be characterized like that on his website, and the expertise confirmed that.

The Eduard Palchys’ site 1863h.com published materials critical of the Belarusian and Russian authorities. In November 2015, he reported about his detention by the KGB and his forced stay in a mental hospital. After that he moved to Ukraine. He was arrested in Russia in January 2016 and was extradited to Belarus at the end of May.

The opposition intends to achieve recognition of Eduard Palchys a political prisoner, despite the fact that the defendant himself said through his lawyer that he did not want to be it. Meanwhile, the international human rights organization “Reporters without Borders” calls for greater transparency in the case of the Belarusian blogger Eduard Palchys and urges the authorities to release him from custody.
