Russian MiG-31 Fighter Jet Crashed in Krasnoyarsk Krai

MiG-31 interceptor has crashed in Krasnoyarsk Krai of the Russian Federation (the city of Kansk) while performing a routine training mission.

Russia's Defense Ministry voiced equipment failure as the preliminary air crash cause, Censor.NET reports citing Russian Interfax.

"The fighter of the combined Air Force and Air Defense detachment of the Central Military District performing routine training mission lost control and crashed in a wooded area about 40 kilometers northwest of the town of Kansk," the statement reads.

The crew ejected and get on for a radio contact after landing. "According to preliminary data, the equipment failure was the cause of the crash of the MiG-31 aircraft," the Ministry of Defense stated.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Defense Ministry's special commission composed of the experts of the Aviation Security Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and General Headquarters of the Russian Space Forces left for the crash site to investigate the cause of the accident.

It was also specified that the mission was conducted without ammunition. The fighter fell on the ground away from populated localities.
