A current winner of the Jerzy Giedroyc Literary Award, perhaps the main award in modern Belarusian literature, was announced in Minsk on October 12. The award was won by Maks Shchur, the author of the book “Complete the gestalt”, Radio Svaboda reports.

2nd place was taken by Alhierd Baharevich, the author of “White fly, the killer of men”;

3rd place was taken by Andrei Adamovich, the author of “Taustsila and the beam”.

The publisher of Maks Shchur’s book Andrei Yanushkevich received the award on behalf of Maks Shchur.

Jerzy Giedroyc Literary Award has been awarded since 2012. It was co-founded by the Embassy of Poland in Belarus, the Polish Institute in Minsk, the Belarusian PEN Centre, and the Union of Belarusian Writers.

The Award was named after the Polish (a native of Minsk) essayist and politician Jerzy Giedroyc, who by his cultural activity was supporting good neighborly relations between Poland and Belarus.

The Giedroyc Award is the most important literary award in Belarus, which gradually but distinctly boosts the literary process in the country.
