The powers of the majority of CEC members, including Mikalai Lazavik, should end in late December.

However, Lukashenka signed his resignation from the post on October 17.

According to the information provided by Radio Svaboda, the reason for his dismissal – state of health of Mikalai Lazavik. He underwent major oncologic surgery this year. The CEC secretary tried to return to work after. Alas, he didn’t manage to make a full recovery. First, he worked only half of the day. But then he stopped working at all.

Mikalai Lazavik was a deputy of the Supreme Council of Belarus (13th Convocation). He was one of the MPs who signed the motion to impeach Aliaksandr Lukashenka. However, he withdrew his signature later. Lukashenka introduced him to the CEC on November 22, 2000.

From 2006 to 2015, Lazavik was on the list of persons who had been denied entry into the European Union.

Lazavik was born in Nevinyany settlement in Vileika district, Minsk region in 1951. He graduated from the Belarusian Institute of Agricultural Mechanization in 1972. He also graduated from the Belarusian State University in 1993 and from the Academy of Management under the President in 2000, in 2003 he completed his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Management.
