Does Lukashenka Want To Enlist Turkey In Belarusian NPP Construction?

Belarus and Turkey are to sign an agreement on nuclear energy cooperation.

This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus.

“On November 11, 2016, as part of the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official visit to Belarus, an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is meant to be signed,” – the statement reads.

First Deputy Energy Minister Leanid Shanets will sign the agreement on Belarus’ part, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Berat Albayrak – on Turkey’s part.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the agreement provides for the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of basic and applied research and development for the peaceful use of nuclear energy, including site finding, design, construction, modernization, testing and maintenance of nuclear power plants and research reactors. In addition, the agreement touches upon the sphere of radioactive waste management, development of advanced and innovative nuclear reactor and fuel cycle technologies and other areas.
