Rosatom Replaced Head Of Belarusian NPP Construction

Vitaly Medyakov has been appointed vice president of the Russian company NIAEP for overseeing the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction.

It is reported by the ASE press service.

Yury Pustavoi, who oversaw the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in 2012-2016, was dismissed for medical reasons, the report says. Vasily Limarenko, President of the ASE group of companies, spoke in glowing terms about Yuri Pustovoi's contribution to the Belarusian nuclear power plant project. In his words, “the construction site in Belarus is an example to follow as far as the organization of construction processes is concerned. State-of-the-art project management technologies are employed over there, and that is to a great extent made possible thanks to Yury Pustavoi’s personal merits.

“Vitaly Medyakov was previously the NIAEP Vice President on projects in Russia, the director of the Rostov NPP construction.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant, which is being built with the participation of Russia under Astravets city in Hrodna region, will consist of two power generating units which total electrical capacity is up to 2,400 megawatts. As BelaPAN reminds, the NPP-2006 project was selected for the construction of this nuclear power plant – a model Russian project of new generation nuclear power plant.

Earlier, it was planned that the first power generating unit is to be put into operation in 2018, the second unit - in 2020.

However, it is now being discussed the possible review of the schedule of the Belarusian nuclear plant construction.

"Some change of dates is possible. These issues are now being discussed with the general contractor, " — the Deputy Minister of Energy Mikhail Mikhadzyuk said on September 26.

Change of dates of putting the nuclear power plant into operation is possible due to the incident that occurred on the construction site on July 10. Information about the incident was revealed in social networks and media only two weeks after. During a training installation of the reactor vessel, the 330-ton unit slipped and fell down from a height between two and four meters. The Russian side has declared its readiness to replace the damaged reactor vessel.
