Mikalai Statkevich To Defense Minister: Whose Army Does Our Nation Maintain?

Rada of the Belarusian National Congress asked Andrei Raukou three questions.

The leader of Belarusian opposition and ex-candidate for presidential elections – 2010 Mikalai statkevich wrote about this on Facebook.

"We have sent the following letter via e-mail and post:

To Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus Lieutenant-General Raukou Andrei Aliakseevich.

We, the participants of Rada of the Belarusian National Congress, are concerned about the information given in an interview given by the Russian political analyst Valery Solovyov to the Euroradio correspondent Dzmitry Lukashuk.

According to the Russian political analyst, a "nonpublic poll" of officers of Armed Forces of Belarus was conducted .

According to the results of the poll of the Belarusian officers: "... 70-80% would want to join with Russia not formally, but actually..."

If the information is true, it means that the majority of the officers of the Belarusian army adhere to antistate views and seek the elimination of independence of our country.

As citizens of Belarus and its patriots, as taxpayers, whose money maintain the Armed Forces, we demand to answer the following questions:

1. Whether the abovementioned "nonpublic poll" was really carried out? If it was carried out, then by whom and what its actual results are?

2. How does the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and you personally assess the mood of the officers regarding the issue of "actual union of Belarus and Russia"?

3. Do you plan to take any measures to ensure patriotic education of officers of Armed Forces for the sake of the indisputable priority of independence of Belarus, the protection of which is the meaning of their service?

We expect to get clear and direct answers to these questions. From these answers we will know the answer to the main question: weather the military formations subordinate to you and maintained by our nation are the Belarusian Army or not."

Mikalai Statkevich, Vatslau Areshka, Uladzimir Niakliaeu, Yauhen Afnahel, Viachaslau Siuchyk, Mikalai Herasimenka signed this letter on behalf of BNC Rada.
